Wind Storm Rattles Hi-Line

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The wind storm that rattled the Hi-Line on Monday and Tuesday did not appear to cause severe issues in the area, but some problems were reported, including widespread downed trees.

Hill County Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator Amanda Frickel says there was a power outage for Hill County Electric customers for about three hours from Kremlin to Joplin on Tuesday due to a downed power line, but had yet to receive any other reports of damage by Wednesday morning.

In the city of Harlem, the high winds caused damage to the roof of Kennedy’s Bar, and they will have to remain closed until repairs are completed.

Near Malta at mile marker 480 on US 2, there was a white semi truck and trailer that overturned at around noon on Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.

According to the National Weather Service, every county in our region saw wind gusts in excess of 55 miles an hour. The highest wind reported in Havre was 59 miles an hour at the Havre Airport at 4 PM on Tuesday.

Havre Public Works Director Dave Peterson said Wednesday morning that there had yet to be any reports of significant damage, but there were plenty of downed trees and blown over garbage cans.

Blaine County and Phillips County Emergency Management had not been presented with any reports of damage as of Wednesday morning.
