Woods Creek Fire 61 Percent Contained

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Containment on the 55,400 acre Woods Creek Fire in the Big Belt Mountains east of Helena is at 61 percent as of late Wednesday morning.

The lightning-caused fire was discovered on July 10th near Boulder Lakes, and firefighters are striving to protect homes and private lands. Other important resources of concern include rangelands, gold mines, the Miller Cabin, the historic Thompson Guard Station, the Duck Creek communications tower, and important Yellowstone cutthroat trout habitat in Camas Creek.

384 personnel are on the scene of the fire, which is burning short grass, timber and brush.

The north end of the fire has been contained, and the majority of evacuation warnings have been lifted.
