The Great Northern Fair will have a two-day rodeo starting on Thursday. New Media Broadcasters talked with MSU-Northern rodeo coach Doug Kallenberger to see what hand he and his team will have in helping with the events.
“So we were approached about three or four years ago by the (Great Northern Fair) board,” Kallenberger said. “They asked if the college rodeo team would step in.”
“This is mainly put on by the MSU-Northern Rodeo Booster Club and then my wife Emily and I,” Kallenberger continued. “We’re the main people that put it on.”
“This is a fundraiser for the college rodeo team for their travel expenses and scholarships, so that’s how we play into this one,” Kallenberger said.
Kallenberger also said which of his MSU-Northern rodeo Lights and Skylights will be taking part in the festivities, competing against some of the professionals who will also be making appearances.
“(Barrel Racer) Brittney Cox will be competing this year. (Team Roper) Gavin McLean and (Breakaway Roper) Brooklin Baukol (are) both entered and are going to be there,” Kallenberger said. “We’ve got a few new recruits that will be there throughout the rodeo.”
For anyone who wants to come watch the rodeo, coach Kallenberger has a message for you.
“Big Circle Rodeo Company is going to be our contract and they bring everything and run it for us,” Kallenberger said. “We just help out and do all the manpower of putting it on.”
“It’ll be a good time like always,” Kallenberger continued. “You’ll see lots of different calibers of people from the local entries to people that have made the Montana Pro Circuit Finals. It’ll be a good rodeo.”
The Great Northern Ram Rodeo will take place on Thursday and Friday at the outdoor arena in the Fairgrounds. Each performance will begin at 7pm. Admission is $15 with kids 10 and under being able to enter for free.
