Havre Public Schools Superintendent Discusses Reopening Proposal

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) –Following last week’s Havre School Board meeting, Superintendent Craig Mueller spoke with New Media Broadcasters to discuss the draft reopening plan that was approved by the board.

If the district moves ahead with a blended/hybrid learning model, they will do so with a split day system, where half of the students come in the morning and the other half come in the afternoon.

“There are a couple of factors that contributed to that. One of them being the desire to have daily contact with each of our students, rather than having the day of contacting, and then not seeing that student potentially for a few days. So contact daily with students was a high priority.”

Havre’s plan will require students and staff wear face coverings when social distancing cannot be maintained, with limited exceptions (such as special needs students that cannot tolerate a face covering).

“Given the number of students that we have in our district and the number of students that we have in our buildings, the interactions with the adults, that it’s best to keep our students safe and our staff safe. And one way to do that is to say we’re strongly encouraging and telling you that masks need to be a part of the expectation every day.”

At the next board meeting on August 11th, the board is expected to vote on which phase to begin the school year in.
