HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Wednesday afternoon, the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce held the 110th annual meeting at the Duck Inn to a crowd of over 200 people. This meeting drew the most attendees that the Chamber is aware of and Chamber Executive Director Jody Olson believes that their keynote speaker, founder of Wheat Montana Dean Folkvord, was a big draw this year.
Folkvord shared the story of his family and business, which he sold a few years ago.
“It started out as just my wife and I having a dream that we could take the wheat off of our own farm and eventually turn it into a finished product and we shared our dream with my mom and dad. One of the axioms that I shared with the crowd today was that if you dream alone, it’s only a dream. And you gotta share your dreams with the right people and if you do that, those dreams actually will come true.”
Folkvord was able to weather the ups and downs of business and the economy several times over the years.
“Sometimes due to our own mishaps or sometimes not really due to our problems, but because the economics weren’t quite right in the country. We’ve taken a little bit of a breather, but you know if you stick with it long enough, everything comes around. And if you have good products and give companies what they need, you’re going to come out in the end.”
The Havre Chamber was recognized last year as a convention visitor bureau, which is an organization that promotes an area for tourism.
