HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Commission has announced that County Attorney Karen Alley is resigning, effective October 24th.
Alley is leaving to take a job with the Montana Association of Counties (MACo).
The Commission will now advertise for and appoint a replacement, with the expectation that the new County Attorney would run for election when the position is on the ballot in 2022.
Alley did not respond to multiple requests for comment from New Media Broadcasters.
She was previously the Deputy County Attorney and was appointed as County Attorney in 2018 after Jessica Cole-Hodgkinson‘s sudden resignation.
According to the Hill County website, County Attorneys are elected officials who are responsible for the prosecution of all felony crimes in the county, as well as many misdemeanors. They also either defend or prosecute civil claims that are for or against the county and are required to represent agencies of the State of Montana when required by law or when requested to do so by the Attorney General.
