HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre City Council convened for a budget hearing on Wednesday night and approved the budget for the fiscal year which runs through June of 2022.
Finance Director Doug Kaercher says that the city’s non-taxable revenue is around $13 million, while they will be receiving around $2.8 million in taxes.
Kaercher says mills are down slightly from last year, but taxable value is up.
“Individually, you shouldn’t see too much of an increase in your taxes,” says Kaercher. “But we will be collecting $46,000 or $47,000 more in taxes than we did last year. Our non-tax revenues are up about $90,000 wif we take the (around $4 million) COVID money out of it.”
Kaercher says with the exception of the COVID relief funds, the budget is very similar to the previous fiscal year.
The City Council is next scheduled to meet on October 4th at 7 PM at City Hall. On September 20th at 7 PM, there will be a public meeting on the proposed ordinance that would deal with vacant properties.
- Also at the meeting, on second reading, the Council approved four resolutions levying property taxes for the 2022 fiscal year for the costs of street lights, street maintenance, maintenance of the Bullhook system, and solid waste services. For property owners with a 50′ x 140′ corner lot, they will see an overall decrease of $0.42 compared to the fees for these services from the previous fiscal year.
