HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A parent of two kids in Havre Public Schools and a lifelong resident of the Hi-Line, Miranda Hencz says she wants to bring a conservative approach to the Havre School Board.
Hencz has worked at Hill County Electric Cooperative for the past 20 years and has experience preparing taxes and doing audits.
Hencz has attended numerous School Board meetings over the past two years and says more programs should be available for students that will not be attending college.
“Trades are huge. There’s just a whole lot more options out there than college nowadays. And I think that with the rising cost of college, that definitely needs to be explored. I’m sure all of us as parents would prefer to set our kids up for success, that’s what we’re all here.”
When it comes to potentially moving to a four-day school week in the future, Hencz says she’s on the fence.
“I see pros and cons myself. I really am on the fence, I’m not sure. But my main concern about the four day, perhaps that’s someplace we should move in the future, but I’d have to be more educated myself before I can make that decision. I would really want to know what is behind all this? I can’t imagine that the teachers, this would be the contributing factor to their low morale, if that’s what’s going on. We’re having burnout, I think, but again, I’d want to talk to the teachers about that to make sure. But I can’t believe that the four-day week would be the only reason that’s going on. I’d like to get to the root of the problem and see if there’s something that maybe the School Board, District, and administration can do to help our teachers, to improve job satisfaction.”
Election day is Tuesday, May 3rd, and all-ballots must be received at the Robins Building by 8 PM that day and have a valid signature on the affirmation envelope to be counted.
