(Havre) Hill County Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator Amanda Frickle told New Media Broadcasters on Friday evening that a Burlington Northern Santa Fey freight train derailed five miles east of Havre at around 5:30pm.
Only 25 cars derailed and were carrying only consumer products.
Amada Frickle talks about the clean up.
“Two crews are out there working diligently they’re expected to work all through the night and then they can start the cleanup of the cars throughout the ditch and get the track fixed and going sometime tomorrow.”
Amanda also advised drivers to be careful when driving in the area.
“There’s 25 cars in kind of a big area there’s going to be equipment and guys throughout there all night long if people would just clearly slow down 35-25 mph. We just need people to slow down, be aware of their surroundings, and drive very cautiously. We need everybody to come home safely.”
At this time the cause of the derailment is unknown.
