(Havre) – On September 9th the Skylights will be holding a Luau Bingo night at the Montana State University SUB building to fundraise for their trip to Hawaii. Chris Mouat the women’s basketball coach talks about the event.
“Yeah it’s a fundraiser to help our Women’s Basketball team we have a trip planned to Hawaii in November and we knew we were going to have to do some separate fundraising from what we already do to assist in the cost. So we’re holding a bingo night down at the SUB Ballroom doors open at 6:00 we will start the games at 7:00 there will be 11 total games at each will pay out $100 to the winter and the 11th game will be a blackout bingo for $500 to the winner. So, we are offering some pretty good prizes, we want people to dress up in their best Hawaiian Luau gear we’re going to award some prizes to the best dressed and just try to have a good night.”
He also talked about why they chose to do bingo.
“You know, years ago I worked in Butte Montana, and it was a big fundraiser for our elementary school. You know I thought it would be nice for us to kind of throw that in there. But you know it’s also stealing a bit of an idea from the Havre Elks club we’re we’ve gone to their bingo night a few times and that’s always well received, and I think people enjoy it I think I will bring in a wide variety of people. Maybe not even necessarily basketball fans but just people who enjoy playing and so it’s always been well received, so we’re looking forward to it.”
He continued by talking about why they are going to Hawaii.
“You know my first year here was 2005- 2006 and the Hawaii trip was scheduled and we took that trip and it’s been since then. You know, we haven’t gone in 18 years now so it helps in recruiting we have two good opponents to play there and I think just you know a warm weather trip every year is really nice for kids and it does help bring student-athletes here. So a lot of different reasons to go, but bottom line, it’s just been a long time since we’ve been there, so we decided to go.”
