(NMB) The MSU Northern Lights football team will be in Billings on Saturday for the final game of the season. Head Coach Jerome Souers says his team is still focusing on their improvement as he and his staff continue to build the program.
“The trajectory of improvement in our fundamentals and the execution of our scheme continues to improve. Again, it’s the arc of where we want to end and that’s that we’re staying on. So, everything we do right now starts with a foundation and then we start building the walls and the joist and the roof and putting all the parts in between and that comes in the off season during recruiting and continued development in the weight room.”
The Lights enter their final game with a 0 and 7 conference record and 1 and 8 overall. While the results on the scoreboard have not been what coach Souers and his team have wanted. He’s happy with the effort they continue to play with as they develop fundamentals with their young roster.
“We’re still grinding these guys and trying to develop our fundamentals and so, we’ll take all the guys we’ve got, and we’ll go out there and play our tails off for four quarters and do the best we possibly can. Ultimately, we want to see results on the scoreboard and that’s an area that we haven’t. There’s always an emphasis point to get to the goal line but to do that you have to be able to move the football consistently. We’re hopeful that things come together in our last game, and we can launch into our off season with a thought and momentum of where we’re going.
