The Chinook boys’ basketball team had the season come to an end over the weekend when the team made it all the way to divisionals and played on Saturday before losing to Glasgow by a single bucket. New Media Broadcasters spoke with coach Bill Bell and he was able to share what his feelings were following the magical run that his team went on from winning more games in two tournaments in February than during the entire regular season.
“The postseason run was expected internally, but not necessarily expected because of our record,” Bell said. “Once we accomplished the goal of getting to divisionals, (the players) found out that they wanted even more than that.”
“We proved ourselves with the way we played even though we came up short against Glasgow,” Bell continued.
The Chinook basketball season can be described as a tale of two campaigns. The regular season was about figuring out how to gel with a first-year head coach and his young arsenal of talent, while the postseason was about bringing all that together to go further than anyone outside of the locker room expected.
“Any coach would love their team to play that well at the end of the season while we had our ups and downs through the season,” Bell said. “We showed glimpses of what we could do and when we finally started to put it together late at the end of the season and then into the postseason, that validated all our work that me and my assistant (Ethan McLeod) put in.”
“The team really started to buy in to our philosophy and that really did help them get to where they ended up at,” Bell continued.
