The Extreme Bares and Broncos Challenge is returning to Havre this weekend. Rodeo competition will take place at the Great Northern Fairgrounds This spectacle will officially usher in the 2024 rodeo season on the Hi-Line and gives a creative outlet to people like announcer Barney Sheridan. He told New Media Broadcasters that coming up every year has only made the sport better and more popular amongst its fans.
“Out of all the giant rodeos that end with the NFR, that’s what people put on their bucket list,” Sheridan said. “If you’re a rodeo fan, those are ones you’d like to see someday if you never have, especially with extreme events.”
“When those come to your town, because of the added money and because of how much is on the line,” Sheridan continued. “For example this weekend, both the world champions are going to be in Havre.”
“It really is an opportunity for rodeo fans or just fans that like to see people that excel athletically in at their sport to come watch the best in the world,” Sheridan said.
This program is also a huge revenue boost for the MSU-Northern rodeo program. Head coach Doug Kallenberger told New Media Broadcasters the work that gets put in from his crew and how they will get to enjoy the festivities as well.
“Our MSU-Northern Rodeo Booster Club goes out and seeks sponsors to help put this all together,” Kallenberger said. “Then our team comes in and does all the work for it. Sets up, works the event, helps put it on.”
“It’s just a good all-around family fun two nights of Friday and Saturday watching the best talent in the world in Saddle Bronc Riding and Bareback Riding,” Kallenberger said.
The action gets going in the Bigger Better Barn on Friday and Saturday starting around 7pm. Tickets are currently on sale at Norman’s and Western Trailer and Marine Sales for $25 , while the gate price on the day of admission is $30.
