Skylights volleyball will have the honor of hosting its annual “Pink Night” game to raise awareness for breast cancer. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Jerry Wagner why this cause is always so meaningful to him and he shared his admiration for the Havre community to come out and help support this cause.
“First of all, Pink Night touches a lot of people. It’s been a particular cause of one of the members of our team, so we were happy to bring that on board and try to do that at another level in that cause for Breast Cancer Awareness,” Wagner said. “The team likes to wear pink, but it’s really an emotional time.”
“I’m happy that it’s done with everybody in town here,” Wagner continued.
For the opponent coming into town, Rocky Mountain College, they have already suffered a loss at their home gym to the Skylights earlier this season. Wagner said that the first conference win of the year against the Battlin’ Bears molded the identity of the team to this point.
“Again, we went down there (earlier this season),” Wagner said. “That kind of spring boarded us into where we’re at.”
“That was our first conference win and it was on somebody else’s turf,” Wagner continued. “Obviously, that paid off when we beat (Montana) Tech.”
“We’ll certainly embrace the ‘Pink Night’ game for us and support the football team during the day,” Wagner said.
Rocky’s match at the Armory Gym will begin at 6pm on Saturday. Pick up a pink shirt for purchase to be allowed in for free not just at the volleyball game, but the football game against College of Idaho as well.
