Havre, MT – Confidence in improvement, consistency and depth despite 1-4 record over the weekend.
Over the weekend, Montana State University-Northern Skylights volleyball team concluded non-conference play going 1-4 in Butte at the Big Sky Challenge.
In the two games against top-25 opponents, Skylights volleyball pushed William Carry to five sets and only dropped the last set by seven points. Despite getting swept by Eastern Oregon Northern dropped the three sets by a combined 11 points, 27-25, 25-23, and 25-18.
Head Coach of Skylights Volleyball, Jerry Wagner, says that despite the losses and playing four games in three days, the team’s depth was strong, and the team improved.
“I’m playing everyone every match. Some of these teams have little depth where they’re not playing that number of kids over that length of time.” Coach Wagner said. ” We carried in an awful lot of consistency which is an improvement. The serving and the serve reception areas of our game, through all four of those matches, those two areas which are the bedrock of us being able to play at a high-level were there every single set that we played. In 17 sets that was two areas that I was very proud of.
Coach Wagner drills into his team the importance of strong serves and serve receiving in order to compete. This week Skylights volleyball is continuing to improve on those areas while they prepare for conference play to start in two weeks at Rocky Mountain College.
MUS-N Volleyball will have a scrimmage this weekend against Medicine Hat College on Saturday, at 10a.m.
