Residential Structure Fire Wednesday

(NMB) On Wednesday November 5th at 1422, Havre Fire Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of 10th avenue for a report of smoke in a home with no flames reported. Homeowner had arrived home and could hear the smoke alarms going off inside the residence. Owner was able to pull one dog outside that was at the front door, then called 911.

Engine1, Rescue 6 and a command vehicle responded and arrived on scene within three minutes and found nothing showing from the exterior of the structure. Engine 1 crew made entry into the home and found the fire to be in the living room, which was quickly extinguished. Fire personnel assisted with the dog that was already out of the house by giving it oxygen due to smoke inhalation and difficulty breathing. The owner stated that there was nobody inside the house at the time of the fire, but there were bunnies in the basement and another dog inside, which was unaccounted for. Engine 1 crew was doing a search of the main level and found the other dog which was brought outside and given to the owner. The bunnies were all found in the walkout basement which did not have any smoke or heat damage. Havre Police officers on scene helped fire personnel with getting the bunnies out of the basement and into the back yard in cages. Additional fire personnel were called into the station for assistance at the fire as well as staffing the station for any subsequent emergencies.

There were no injuries reported to civilians or responders. One dog was transported immediately to a vet clinic for further care and evaluation. Havre Fire responded with 2 engines, an ambulance, and a command vehicle. A big thank you to Havre Police Department, Hill County DES, and NorthWestern Energy for support and assistance on scene. All fire units cleared at 1600, and scene turned back over to homeowner.
