HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Next weekend’s Arctic Games Ice Fishing Tournament has been canceled due to a lack of stable ice in the area. Havre Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jody Olson says the warm weather this winter has left the ice too thin for people to be on it and there is more warm weather in the forecast.
“From the people I’ve talked to, you know, I’ve got fishermen that advise me on that board and I’ve talked to Fish, Wildlife and Parks, made sure they knew it was canceled, and just different people I’ve talked to. You know, for safety reasons, we just can’t let people go out, especially under the name of the Chamber.”
However, Olson says that they will still be holding events that Saturday.
“This year, again, we did the raffle again, like we did last year. We’ve got some great prizes and, of course, we can’t cancel that. You know, those have already been sold. But the Elks offered to have a chili feed Saturday night, the 26th starting about 4 o’clock. We assumed we’d have a bunch of fishermen coming in, but we’ll just get a group of people together.”
Olson says they will hold their raffle at about 5:30 Saturday, January 26th via Facebook Live. The Elks Club also plan on hosting a chili feed that evening.
