Havre, MT – New Talent and familiar faces are just a couple of headliners to the start of Lights football in 2025.
Montana State University-Northern football opens the season this weekend. On the field for lights football will be familiar upperclassman, and plenty of new faces from both the transfer portal and the incoming freshman.
Head coach of lights football, Jerome Sours, is entering his fourth year at the helm of the program. Coach Souers says that the maturity of returning players will help the team’s depth.
“The continuity of our program is similar in trajectory, you know we finally have some three-year returners, some guys that are mature that have been developing within the program, so we’re deeper this year and I think we’re a more mature team.” Coach Souers said.
Sours says continuity is a focus for the high number of new faces on the field. “We got some new faces on both sides of the ball. We’ve added over 45 new guys to our program to our program. A lot of freshmen, some non-traditional transfers, so our talent base has changed but with all the faces we got to create continuity and consistency.” said Coach Souers.
These new and familiar names and faces will be suiting up early Saturday afternoon for the season opener against a strong Carroll College team. Kickoff is at 1p.m. from Tilleman field. You can listen to live New Media Broadcaster coverage of the game on KPQX, home of Northern Athletics.
