The Box Elder boys’ basketball team continued their dream season in the State Class ‘C’ tournament in Great Falls on Thursday night, picking up a (69-43) win over No. 1 Southern ‘C’ Harlowton-Ryegate-Judith Gap and more importantly, securing a berth in the championship game for the first time since the 2015-2016 season.
The Bears continued their relentless pursuit of the basketball and forced the Engineers into 14 turnovers and held most of their scorers under their seasonal averages. 21 point-per-game scorer Kenyan Davis was limited to just 17, 12 of which came after halftime, where Box Elder had already built a (34-16) edge. Angus Glennie was the only other Engineer in double-figures, scoring 14.
For Box Elder, it was the usual scoring prowess of junior point guard Tracen Jilot leading the way, crossing the 20-point mark again with 21 in the semifinal. He was accompanied in the scorebook by Matthias Blackbird’s 17 and Tuarie Stiffarm-Rossette and Dreyden Anderson each pouring in 11.
Box Elder will look to complete the perfect season against the defending two-time State Class ‘C’ champion Manhattan Christian Eagles with a title game at stake on Saturday night. Coverage will begin a little before 6pm on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
