Chinook football gave it everything on the road in Phillipsburg on Saturday, ending its season on a (28-6) defeat to Flint Creek. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Mike Jones what went into the effort that his team gave on the field and why they ended up falling short.
“It was a super physical game,” Jones said. “(We had) a lot of resilience.”
“Some things didn’t go our way,” Jones continued. “Some things happened and (my players) really just kept their heads in the game and fought until the end.
The Sugarbeeters have a lot to look forward to after a 2024 season that saw an improvement of four wins from a season ago and a young core that only got better as time went along. Jones said what his seventh season of coaching this football team brought him and what he will remember most about the squad.
“Well, it was good for our program (and) good for our leadership,” Jones said. “I think it solidified the leadership in the program.”
“These seniors I think had been to the playoffs three out of four years,” Jones continued. “And we finally got our first playoff win (an upset of Valley Christian on the road) in our program in the last seven to nine years.”
“It didn’t end the way we wanted, but I would say it was a successful season,” Jones said. “We had some kids really step up and leave the program better than when they got to it.”
Congratulations to the (7-4) Chinook Sugarbeeters on a fantastic 2024 football season.
