HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A Chinook man was killed after an altercation at the Hill County Detention Center on Sunday evening.
Hill County Sheriff and Coroner Jamie Ross says that on Sunday, November 17th at about 6:40 PM, a detention officer requested medical assistance for 54-year-old Gordon Wayne Cochran, who had been involved in an altercation with another inmate. City of Havre Ambulance personnel transported Cochran to Northern Montana Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation has bee requested to investigate the incident, and agents from that agency have responded. In accordance with Montana statute, a civilian coroner from another jurisdiction has been requested. Petroleum County Coroner R.J. “Dick” Brown has agreed to this request and will fulfill the duties of coroner.
