GLACIER NATIONAL PARK (NMB) – Officials with Glacier National Park say that there is still no firm date for the complete opening of Going-to-the-Sun Road this summer for motorized vehicle traffic.
Plows have finished for the season, however road crews are still preparing Going to the Sun Road.
Crews are working on rock clean up and install guard rails along Going to the Sun Road before opening to the public, which usually takes a couple weeks.
Road crews typically work Monday through Friday between 6 AM and 4PM. Please be respectful of the Road Crew Closures.
Friday, July 1st, both east and west side crews punched through the Big Drift a lane and a half wide down to the road surface, which is solid ice. This is usually the last and biggest challenge the road crews face when clearing the road. On Monday June 27th, the Big Drift was reported to have a 40 ft deep section of snow.
