HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre’s Food Bank will be receiving donations soon from two programs going on at the end of the year. Manager Sammantha Nimmick says that they were able to reach their $10,000 goal for the Town Pump food drive, which means that they will match that number for a total of over $20,000. They also had help from Gary & Leo’s IGA.
“We also finished up our Hometown Proud Hunger Food Drive with IGA. They were able to sell 122 $25 food boxes and 154 $45 food boxes for a total of 276 meals. And that’s split between us and the Salvation Army.”
Nimmick says that they are in need of donations of food, money or time to help them deal with a large influx of families affected by the federal government shutdown.
“We’re also seeing a huge influx of clients with this whole government shutdown and with the February SNAPs being issued. And those are meant for February. We’re hoping that our clients will try to budget, but I know that this is going to cause a lot of stress on people.”
Nimmick says that with the government shutdown, she saw at least five new clients last week and they are giving out more emergency food boxes than normal.
