It’s time to do a summer recap of how the Havre High football team has been doing. New Media Broadcasters got to speak with head coach Jake Eldridge and he expanded on what his team has been up to since graduation, which was back in May.
“It’s been a great summer (and) a whirlwind,” Eldridge said. “We’ve been doing a lot basically right when school got out.”
“We had an opportunity as a team to get on the football field and do some practicing and knock the rust off if you will,” Eldridge continued.
“The next week, we had a couple of camps,” Eldridge said. “We took the team down to the Montana Western football camp down in Dillon and had a heck of a showing down there and did a really good job with a three-day full-contact camp.”
The team is preparing for two camps in as many weeks. The first one is designed for kids who are going into or are already enrolled in high school. Eldridge said that this camp is an opportunity to feel what it’s like to be a Blue Pony, going through practices the same way the players on the football team do.
“It’s an opportunity for us to cater to the high school kids (and) see if there are any kids that hadn’t been out for the team in the past that are interested in coming and don’t really know what to expect,” Eldridge said. “This is a good opportunity for them to show up and get on the football field with us as coaches and their teammates and show us what they can do.”
“Also, (to) get an understanding of how we run our program and what practices look like (and) all the stuff that goes into that,” Eldridge continued. “It’s a great opportunity for those kids in the area and (if) they’re going into grades nine through 12.”
The high school football camp that Havre High will run goes from Jul. 22 through Jul. 24 from 6:15-8am at the Havre High School Practice Field.
