Havre School Board Election Candidate Profile: Tyler Gibson

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A graduate of MSU-Northern with three children, Tyler Gibson says he’s running for a seat on the Havre School Board to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.

Gibson, who works as a mechanic at Triangle Communications, says that one priority if elected would be to put more trust in teachers.

“I think there needs to be a better effort at bringing the teachers into the conversation and hearing what they have to say, what they want to bring, what they have going on, and what’s going on in the classroom. I think that teachers have a hard time right now, and I think that’s why there’s such a teacher shortage.”

Gibson says he is in favor of the District shifting to a four-day school week in future years.

“When the public wants it, we’re willing to step forth and willing to work at getting it, then I think we need to just do it. There’s going to be difficulties, there’s going to be problems that we face because it’s the first time we’re doing it. But when somebody is for it, when we’re all for it, we need to back them. We need to just do it. I’m for it. Teachers were obviously for it. The forums, the meetings that they’ve had, people were for it. And if we work together like we always have, Havre is a great community, and working together, we’ll find a way. We’ll make it work and I think that’ll bring a lot of great opportunities for the community and for the school.”

Election day is Tuesday, May 3rd, and all-ballots must be received at the Robins Building by 8 PM that day and have a valid signature on the affirmation envelope to be counted.
