Havre Softball Dominates Season Opener

Just like in Major League Baseball, Thursday was opening day for the Havre softball team. The Blue Ponies competed in Miles City against Custer County and won a 5-inning game, (13-0).

Elle Verploegen went into the circle for her first start of the year and dazzled, firing zeros the entire time. In 69 pitches, 51 were strikes and her final line was no runs, no hits, no walks, and nine strikeouts of Cowgirls batters.

The Ponies did all their damage in the first four innings. The team used opponent errors and mistakes as well as timely hitting to coast to victory. Jersi Morse led the team in hits with two, while Rachel Jette had three runs batted in. Her teammate Brenna Hanson also recorded two RBIs. Havre reached base nine times via base on balls alone.

Havre (1-0) will be in Lewistown to face Fergus on Apr. 5 followed by the home opener the next day against Custer County.
