Like most of high school sports in Montana, the Havre softball team could not open the season over the weekend due to the winter storm that moved through the Treasure State.
Head coach Tony Vigliotti shared what his plans would have been had the Billings Jamboree taken place, but also said the girls on his teams are used to this time of the year and what it takes to mentally focus.
“Honestly, they’re used to it, too,” Vigliotti said. “That’s why I was really looking forward to going to Billings last weekend.”
“It was going to give us an opportunity to get on the field four times and see where we wanted to put some girls and do some things,” Vigliotti continued. “Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.”
With the majority of the winter storm cleared, the Havre softball team will finally have a chance to take the field and play in Miles City. Vigliotti said that this contest will be focused on feeling out how the team will look because they’ve been caged up inside practicing and waiting to play ball.
“We’re just going to focus. We’re ready. We’ve had enough practice. It’s time to play some games. The girls are itching to play some games,” Vigliotti said. “We’ll just go out and do the best we can.”
“They’ll be ready to go on Thursday if we go,” Vigliotti continued. “Right now as we speak, it looks pretty promising.”
“Hopefully we can get a game under our belt before we really get into our schedule the following week,” Vigliotti said.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Blue Pony fastpitch softball team will play against Custer County on Thursday. JV plays at 3pm, while the varsity team will go around 5pm.
