Hill County Man Pleads Guilty to Vehicle Theft

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A man accused of stealing two vehicles in December 2019 has pleaded guilty in Hill County District Court.

Isaac Alexander Chapa pleaded guilty last week to felony theft and misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

For the felony, the plea agreement asks for a three year sentence in the Department of Corrections, all suspended.

For the misdemeanor, the plea agreement asks for a six month sentence, all suspended, in the county jail.

The agreement includes an admission that on December 11th, 2019, Chapa, “purposely or knowingly obtained or exerted unauthorized control over the property of another and had the purpose of depriving the owner of that property,” and that the property’s value exceeded $5,000.

The agreement also includes an admission that on December 13th, 2019, Chapa, “knowingly operated the automobile of another without their consent.”

Chapa appeared in person in court after previously posting bail. During the change of plea hearing, the Court “admonished the defendant that failure to abide by conditions of release pending sentencing will result in incarceration pending that hearing and may significantly impact sentencing.”

Sentencing is set for July 6th at 10 AM.
