
HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Park Board convened at the Courthouse on Monday night for their regular monthly meeting.
The Board approved a request from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to create a small trail that will provide better access to BearPaw Lake.
This will be funded by FWP, as although it is on park property, it is at the Fishing Access Site.
The trail will provide access from the pavilion down to the water. The current trail, which is steep and hard to use, will be abandoned.
The new gravel trail will by five-feet wide by 125-feet long.
Also at the meeting, the Board approved a request from the Havre Chamber of Commerce to hold the Bear Paw Marathon on Saturday, June 4th.
Also discussed at the meeting:
- Approval of a request to hold a Frisbee Golf Tournament at the new Normandy Coulee Course on the weekend of May 14th. Havre Trails agreed to rent the nearest campground as part of the arrangement
- Approval of an employee restructuring proposal from Superintendent Chad Edgar. They will now be advertising for two seasonal laborers and one seasonal office worker. The position of Assistant to the Park Superintendent will remain open in case somebody applies.
- The tabling of a proposed grazing application form.
- Edgar said when it comes to the project to rehabilitate the lodge, the structural drawings have been completed and the electricity and plumbing plans are almost done. They are still waiting to hear back on a grant application.
- Approval of a request to place a memorial at the top of Mount Otis honoring Billy J. Buerkle, who loved to hike the trail and passed away last year.
