Governor Gianforte has recently been pushing for Montana to adopt a flat tax rate, and sat down with New Media Broadcasters to discuss how it would affect businesses looking to move into the state.
“Well, there’s two things. We’re not gonna do special deals with people who move here. But what we do want to do is lower the tax burden for existing Montana businesses and companies that choose to move here. One level playing field, I’d like to get to a flat tax, so we don’t have that distinction anymore. What is a flat tax; it’s one rate, everybody pays the same rate. If you make more money, you pay more taxes. If you make less money, you pay less taxes. Plus, you have income tax credits which helps lower income folks reduce their tax rate even further.”
