(Great Falls) – The Montana Department of Transportation is inviting public comment on proposed intersection safety upgrades slated for twenty communities across Central Montana. The safety project will directly impact residents traveling in and around Augusta, Belt, Cascade, Conrad, Coughlin, Craig, Cut Bank, Fairfield, Fort Benton, Gildford, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Helmville, Inverness, Ledger, Pendroy, Rudyard, Sun River, and Vaughn.
MDT aims to address local crash trends in these specific areas by upgrading roadway infrastructure. Proposed improvements for the district’s intersections include installing new stop ahead and warning signs, flashers, roadway delineation, destination lighting, and retroreflective backplates on existing traffic signal heads.
Local community feedback is a key part of the planning process before construction tentatively begins in 2030. State officials emphasize that the work will not require any new right-of-way acquisitions or utility relocations affecting local property owners.
Residents of the involved communities can submit their ideas and comments online or by mail to the Great Falls District office. All correspondence should reference project number UPN 10734000.
