College Place, WA – Lights basketball went on the road and claimed victory in their last non-conference game Monday night at Walla Walla University (94-61).
Northern put their foot on the gas early jumping out to a 10-2 lead. The Lights maintained that energy and effort to take a 14-point lead going into the break (46-32).
The second half was more of the same from Northern out scoring Walla Walla 48-29. The Lights finished shooting 52.2% from the field and made 12 threes on 40% shooting behind the arch. Northern was passing the ball at a high level to finish with 23 assist and only nine turnovers while forcing 19 turnovers.
Coach Huse told New Media Broadcasters after the game he thought his defense did an excellent job defending a high pace Walla Walla offense.
“I thought our activity was very good. . . Walla Walla is a very energetic team that plays very hard and gives you fits with all their movement. I was really proud of our guys and bench play. They gave us a huge spark when we needed to get over the hump and really helped us gain the comfortable separation.”
15 of the Lights 57 total bench points came from freshman Tracen Jilot. Jilot had his best night on the hardwood going 5-9 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line to lead the team in scoring.
The lights will be on the road again this Thursday at the University of Providence for their conference opener. Tipoff for the Lights is at 7p.m. and you can listen on KPQX.
