A woman is recovering after being charged by a moose on private land near McAllister.
Wildlife officials report the incident occurred on October 3rd while the woman was walking her dogs near her home. She surprised a cow moose, which investigators believe acted defensively. The woman was treated at Madison Valley Medical Center for significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks wardens searched the area but did not locate the moose, and no further action is planned. Officials remind the public that moose are common in southwestern Montana and can be highly defensive when startled, especially females with calves. Authorities urge residents to keep dogs under control and maintain a safe distance from wildlife.
