HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Now that they have received approval from the Hill County Park Board, Havre Trails can begin a project for a new trail in Beaver Creek Park.
Havre Trails President Lindsey Brandt-Bennett says the Brough’s Coulee Trail will be a 1.2 mile loop that will branch off of the Bear Paw Nature Trail.
“It is in a really beautiful scenic area … it already taps into that infrastructure on the Bear Paw Nature Trail. There’s a bathroom nearby the beginning of where it would begin and parking as well that’s already there. We’re just trying to create minimal disturbance with having to add infrastructure and just tap into what already exists. It’s also going to follow, to a large extent, a game and cow trail that already exists. So just trying to work with the area and bring out what’s there and bring people to nice little areas in the Bear Paws that they maybe wouldn’t have otherwise been able to walk into.”
Brandt-Bennett says once the trail is marked to ensure there aren’t any concerns with the route, they will coordinate with Montana Conservation Corps to get it built, with construction hopefully taking place this summer.
“They did all the work on the Rotary Canyon Trail, so it will be a similar type trail, cut by hand. They do great work, so we’re going to be bringing them in. We’re not sure exactly the timeline on that yet, it just depends on their schedule and how their availability shapes up. So hopefully this summer, but it could be fall or summer 2023 if that doesn’t work out timing wise. But it should take a couple of weeks once they get rolling. And that’ll be it. We’ll create some signage and it’ll be ready for use once that happens.”
It is expected to cost more than $11,000 and will be entirely funded by Havre Trails.
Brandt-Bennett adds that Havre Trails will be bringing back their annual Brewfest fundraiser this August after it was canceled last year due to COVID concerns. Details regarding the Brewfest will be released once available.
