(Havre) – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and engineering consultant Morrison-Maierle have begun a study to evaluate options for replacing the 7th Avenue North bridge in Havre. The aging structure spans the historic Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway yard.
“The 7th Avenue North bridge is an important connection for Havre and the surrounding region,” said Jim Wingerter, MDT Great Falls District Administrator. “This study will ensure that the bridge continues to meet safety and transportation needs for those traveling between U.S. Highway 2 (US 2), the communities to the north, and the Canadian border.”
The study team will evaluate potential replacement options based on bridge design, alternative alignments, environmental impacts, right-of-way and utility needs, safety, operations, traffic patterns, and other relevant factors. The goal is to identify a preferred replacement alternative and the estimated costs for design and construction. Following the study, the preferred alternative could advance to design and construction if funding becomes available.
At this time, funding has not been identified, and no construction date has been scheduled. Community input is an important part of the study. Residents, businesses, and other stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed, ask questions, and share comments with the project team as the study progresses. An open house will be held to share study information and gather community feedback. Details will be announced as they become available.
