Hi-Line Power Outage Caused by Piece of Equipment on Transmission Line

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Two massive power outages hit the Hi-Line on Thursday night, leaving thousands of Montanans in the dark for several hours.

Northwestern Energy Spokesperson Jo Dee Black says the outages were caused by “issues with a piece of equipment on a transmission line.”

Black says that the first outage began at around 8:30 PM and concluded at around 9 PM, impacting communities from Joplin to Nashua and south to Big Sandy.

Black says the second outage occurred from about 9:15 to 11 PM and impacted Havre, Big Sandy and Box Elder areas.

Black says crews responded quickly and safely to restore power last night, and have been working since daylight to make the necessary repairs.
