Havre Man with Lengthy Criminal History Pleads Guilty to 4 Felonies

By Josh Margolis

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A Havre man that is already scheduled to be incarcerated through 2028 has pleaded guilty to four felonies.

Joshua Glen Reid, born in 1979, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in Hill County District Court to the charges of partner or family member assault (3rd or subsequent offense), escape, assault on a Peace Officer, and stalking.

This tentative plea agreement is a consolidation of three different active court cases in which Reid was charged with a total of 11 felonies and two misdemeanors.

Reid has been in the Hill County Detention Center since June 9th, 2020 after being charged with four separate felonies after a domestic dispute. Court documents filed in this case allege that Reid assaulted a woman three times in a 36 hour period, causing bruising. He pleaded guilty to one of the felonies (partner or family member assault, 3rd or subsequent offense) on Wednesday.

Just a few days later, he was accused of trying to escape custody after requesting emergency medical assistance. Reid was charged with four felonies in that case, and pled guilty to two of them (escape, assault on a Peace Officer) on Wednesday.

The third case also took place while Reid was incarcerated, and involves him allegedly repeatedly calling the person he had the aforementioned domestic dispute with, allegedly urging her not to attend a hearing where she was seeking a permanent no-contact order. Reid was charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors in that case, and pleaded guilty to one of the felonies (stalking) on Wednesday.

Reid was also involved in a fourth active court case, in which he was charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs (opiates or meth). However, that charge was dismissed at Wednesday’s hearing.

If the plea agreement is upheld at sentencing, the charges Reid did not plead guilty to would be dismissed.

In the plea agreement, Reid admits to the following:

  • Knowingly causing bodily injury to a partner or family member on June 8th, 2020, after having been convicted of this offense at least three times previously.
  • Purposely eluding official detention by the use of force, physical violence, or a weapon on June 12th, 2020. In the course of eluding detention, Reid admits he “purposely attempted to cause serious bodily injury to another, and in doing so knowingly caused reasonable apprehension of serious bodily injury in a Peace Officer by use of a weapon.”
  • Violating a no-contact order on June 11th, 2020, by “engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person,” knowing that it could cause them to “fear for their own safety or suffer other substantial emotional distress.”

Sentencing is set for January 14th.

Reid is already scheduled to be incarcerated through 2028 after being sentenced to the Montana State Prison through December 2023 on a suspended sentence revocation for theft by embezzlement, and will then be screened for a five year sentence with the Department of Corrections after recently being convicted of theft by common scheme.
