HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A new trail is coming soon to Beaver Creek Park.
Havre Trails President Lindsey Brandt-Bennett says that on Tuesday, a crew from the Montana Conservation Corps began constructing the Brough’s Coulee Trail.
“We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to get them at all, just because they were pretty booked. And we were able to have them scheduled … So they will be there for I believe, nine or ten days, digging that trail. We never are very sure how long the work will actually take. It just depends on the ground, and they are going to be using a lot of existing game trail, so it might go a little quicker. But that’ll be ready within the next couple weeks for the public to use.”
Although the trail will be ready soon, signage may take some time to get installed.
“Once it’s created, we’ll have to map it again and then bring that mapping onto a design to create a board and have it printed. So that’ll probably be at least a month to get that all figured out, but it should be pretty obvious to people as you cross Brough’s Coulee Road and the restrooms there and keep going south on the Bear Paw Nature Trail, it’s about a 1/4 mile up the hill and around a little corner. There will be a new little loop off that long trail, to the right.”
The new trail, which is being entirely funded through Havre Trails, will be a 1.2 mile loop that branches off of the popular Bear Paw Nature Trail.
Havre Trails has plenty of events scheduled for this spring and summer, including a Disc Golf Tournament, a hike of Mount Centennial on June 11th, a hike from Wolf Creek to Ranger Creek on June 26th, a to be determined hike in August, and a brewfest on August 20th.
Havre Trails has obtained permission from the Chippewa Cree Tribe for the two group hikes that are within the reservation’s boundaries.
